Gallery Straw
We started to build the gallery in the summer of 2008. The idea was to build a environmentally friendly gallery and workshop, and a straw bale house was just what we where looking for. We got all the straw bales from a local farmer. Straw bale houses is not so common in Norway and there are only about 60 buildings on a national basis. Straw is finally treated with a mixture of clay and sand. The house has a very good indoor air quality when the walls "breathe", and the straw itself works as great insulation. On the 24.09.2008 there was a program on Norwegian broadcasting (NRK) that you can see here. Gallery Straw opened on the 17.12.2009. Opening hours are tuesdays from 14:00-18:00 and everyother sunday from 15:00-18:00. If you like to come except opening hours, please do not hesitate to contact Elisabeth.
If you want to see pictures of the buildingprocess you can join Jumina design on facebook.
